In 1897, Pluto Lamp gas lanterns were installed in several locations in London.
These devices were intended not only for street lighting, but also worked as vending machines, offering hot coffee, tea and cocoa.
In addition, cigarettes and postcards could be bought from automatic flashlights.
One of the models even had a telegraph connected to send messages to Scotland Yard.
All this miracle of the then technology ran on gas, arousing awe of the inhabitants of the city.
