Gradation of coffee beans

In international trade the green coffee beans are commonly used due to their suitability for long-term storage in contrast to roasted and especially ground coffee.

Unfortunately, there is no universal grading system of coffee beans. Each country producing coffee has its own system, which generally include following requirements:

  • Coffee beans species (Arabica or Robusta),
  • Growing region,
  • Processing method,
  • Size,
  • Amount of defective beans,
  • Number of impurities, 
  • Humidity.
