Many Ukrainians start their day with coffee, and some drink it throughout the day. The consumption of this drink has become a ritual, it is drunk during meetings in coffee shops and when relatives and friends are invited for coffee. Coffee competes with tea for the title of the most consumed drink in the world after ordinary water. In order to improve the taste of coffee, more precisely, to reveal all its notes, various ingredients are added to coffee.
Since coffee has been cultivated since ancient times and occupies an important place in many world cultural traditions, mankind has invented many ways to prepare this drink and many flavors that can be given to it.
Ukrainians started drinking "seasoned" coffee in the second half of the 19th century. In Kyiv, there was a chain of coffee shops owned by the Warsaw emigrant Franciszek Holombert, whose specialty was coffee served with ice cream and candied fruit.
Coffee was served not only with food supplements, but also with spiritual food. In the Kiev pastry shop of the Swiss Semadeni, a fresh newspaper was served with coffee. The tradition of reading the press over a cup of coffee was very popular in the past, and is also widespread today, although paper newspapers have long since replaced the screens of gadgets.
