Coffee blends
Blend in the coffee world is a mixture of coffee from different countries, different processing and varieties. In fact, any pack of coffee on the shelf of a store or coffee shop is a blend. Even conditional specialty coffee 80+ is mostly a blend of varieties. Most often, you drink blends without realizing it.
There are two types of blends in the roasting world:
• Pre-blending - the coffee is blended green and then roasted. This saves time, makes the profile more stable and the taste more uniform and balanced;
• Post blending - coffee is blended after roasting. This takes longer, but allows you to emphasize the benefits of each lot to a greater extent, since grains of different treatments, different density / humidity, from different countries and varieties are roasted a little differently.
P.S. Most often, a blend is made from two lots, where one dominates in percentage terms (70% / 30% is the most common).
